Beth Shaddock

21 Years in Residential Construction

After graduating from TCU in 2000 with a bachelor’s degree in finance and Real Estate, Beth Shaddock began working at Shaddock Homes in 2000 as a construction manager. As the only female builder, Beth was instantly underestimated, so she was determined to prove herself as the best and compete at the same level as the boys. She would arrive every morning at 6:00am, sleep at the model homes, roll up her sleeves and out preform the rest. Within the first year, she was the fastest builder, with the least experience. During her time as a builder, Beth made lifelong friends by making work fun for herself and for everyone around her. She was a natural leader from the very beginning.

After about 5 years of building, Beth moved into the corporate office and began working on plans first and then land. She has touched almost every aspect of the business, including land, project management, marketing, product and models. During Beth’s time as a builder, she would see the layouts and consistency in the plans and would see all the different ways that she could do it better herself. This is when she realized her love of creativity. Her creative instincts have been her biggest contribution to the company since then. Many say that her model home designs are far superior to other builder’s interior design work.

Beth’s leadership style revolves around encouragement. First and foremost, she leads by example. She would never ask someone to do something that she wouldn’t do herself. Second, she has a completely positive outlook on life, so she is always able to see a negative and turn it into a positive. She will go into someone’s office with a new, tough task or some bad news and joyously say, “We have a new opportunity!” In times when most people would complain, Beth is able to see it as a new challenge to accomplish something together as a team. Her ability to lead with this attitude reflects on the whole environment at the whole company.

What makes Beth really stand out amongst other leaders is the way that she asks something of her employees. Instead of telling you what to do and how to do it, as most people in management do, she simply asks that you try. It is clear that she has complete trust in the people that she manages. They see that she believes in them, so they are inspired to tackle what they are working on, and usually grow in the process.
